In ordinary years, Yorkshire’s farming community would be celebrating Plough Sunday at Ripon Cathedral today, but with the traditional service unable to take place, Bishop Helen-Ann, Bishop of Ripon, has made a short video to mark the important event. The service, held in conjunction with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, dates back to the Middle Ages when the ploughs were blessed and prayers offered for God’s continuing providence.
God becomes unmasked with the birth of Jesus, explains Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines in his Christmas message after an extraordinary year. In a special video, Bishop Nick thanks everyone across our diocese for keeping hope alive, when the world has seemed sometimes dark and fearful.

‘Mr Emporium’s Gift Shop’ is a uniquely scripted filmed production of the Christian Nativity story, created by St George's, Leeds. It is for all the family and complete with audience participation and resources to go alongside. It will be available from Monday 23rd November, is free of charge and will be shared with anyone who expresses an interest. It could be used in a Christmas lesson, an assembly slot, or in partnership with your local church.
